Restoration of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris

Project

The rehabilitation work on the cathedral involves a large number of stakeholders, including the Diocese of Paris, which is the exclusive manager of the cathedral; the Chief Architect of Historical Monuments; the DRAC (Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs), which is responsible for the conservation of movable objects and has storage within the monument; the CMN (National Monuments Centre), which operates the tower visit circuit; and the City of Paris, which is involved in the redevelopment of the surrounding areas and the forecourt.

Due to the multiplicity and complexity of the projects, the public establishment sought the expertise of a multidisciplinary team to assist in programming studies and expert missions to consolidate the program and create a phased timeline, identifying the scope of work for each participant.

Following the devastating fire that ravaged Notre-Dame Cathedral on April 15, 2019, the work to secure the building was completed in the summer of 2021, allowing the start of the restoration phase.

The various operations include:

  • Transepts and spire
  • Interior cleaning, high windows, waterproofing of lower parts
  • Fire-damaged masonry, restoration of the great roof
  • Belfries (currently excluding the CMN “public accessibility” tour)
  • CET (Environmental Control), floors, and interior furnishings.
