Expansion and Modification of the Aïre Wastewater Treatment Plant

Project

The Services Industriels of Geneva (SIG) have initiated a large-scale project at the Aïre Wastewater Treatment Plant (STEP).

Originally designed to treat carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus pollution for a capacity of 600,000 inhabitants, the plant is now operating over capacity. It is currently overloaded with carbon pollution equivalent to 750,000 inhabitants. To address this, the plant is undergoing an expansion to meet the needs of 1 million inhabitants by 2050, focusing on increasing its biological treatment capacity.
