Saint-Étienne Design City

Project

As the only French city designated a UNESCO Creative City of Design, Saint-Étienne is enhancing its role in promoting design through a new initiative led by Saint-Étienne Métropole: Cité du Design 2025.

The project aims to fundamentally transform the Cité du Design and integrate it into a vibrant, accessible neighborhood. It will establish a new hub for leisure and culture, as well as an international platform for economic innovation through design.

Key objectives include:

  • Creating spaces for 150 startups across over 70,000 m² dedicated to design.
  • Developing a National Design Gallery.
  • Opening a new sociocultural third place in the La Platine building.

The revitalized neighborhood will be more open and inviting, with enhanced liveliness, featuring recreational and leisure spaces such as a concept hotel, cafés, restaurants, and shops. This new hub will serve as a dynamic venue for cultural activities and attract a diverse range of visitors.
